The Ministry of Tourism has launched a visionary project- ‘Adopt a Heritage: Apni Dharohar, Apni Pehchaan’. It is a transformative initiative aimed at enhancing tourism amenities at heritage/natural/tourist sites spread across India. Embracing a planned & phased approach, the project envisions turning these sites into tourist havens.

The ambitious project aims to encourage companies from public & private sectors, trusts, NGOs, individuals & other stakeholders to become ‘Monument Mitras’, joining hands to foster the development & upgradation of essential & advanced tourist amenities at these remarkable locations, fostering sustainable investments through CSR and other funds.

The Ministry of Tourism organized a two-day Chintan Shivir on the theme of ‘Tourism in Mission Mode: Convergence and Public Private Partnership’, on 28th & 29th March, 2023 in New Delhi to ideate & devise strategies for the promotion of “Tourism in Mission Mode”.

The guidelines for Swadesh Darshan 2.0 envisage encouraging the States for opportunities for Private-Sector and Public-Private Partnerships. PRASHAD Scheme embraces PPP mode in operation & maintenance of the facilities created under the project.

In another stride towards sustainable tourism, the “Travel for LiFE” initiative has been launched. This transformative campaign endeavors to promote conscientious tourism through mindful and deliberate actions towards tourists and tourism businesses in the utilization of tourism resources responsibly.

By nurturing an awareness of the country’s rich heritage and culture, the ministry aims to evoke a deep sense of national pride and belongingness among citizens, encouraging them to explore the wonders of their homeland. With this newfound enthusiasm, tourist footfalls are set to soar, fostering local economic growth & generating employment opportunities at the grassroots level.

Through engaging webinars under the celebrated “Dekho Apna Desh” initiative, the ministry aims to ignite a passion for exploration and discovery among the citizens. These webinars showcase the country’s diverse heritage and cultural tapestry, fueling a yearning to explore & celebrate India’s vibrant diversity.

Determined to nurture a profound connection with history, heritage, tourism products, and destinations, the Ministry has organized exhilarating quiz programs, essay writing, and poster-making competitions at esteemed institutions such as YUVA Tourism Clubs, IHMs, IITTMs, and schools. These inspiring events encourage youth to embrace their heritage and embrace the spirit of travel, becoming ambassadors of their homeland’s treasures.

A National Tourism Policy has been drafted to enhance tourism & its contribution to the economy. The key objectives of the policy are:

– To create jobs & entrepreneurial opportunities in the tourism sector

– To enhance the competitiveness of the tourism sector & attract investment

– To preserve & enhance the cultural and natural resources of the country

– To ensure sustainable, responsible and inclusive development of tourism
