Biden requests Congress for $24 billion to help Ukraine

US President Joe Biden requested US Congress for $24 billion funding for Ukraine against Russia’s action. In his request, Biden is asking Congress for more than $24 billion for Ukraine and other international needs.

Republicans have voiced concern about approving more Ukraine aid. Republican don’t seem to be happy giving more aid to war affected Ukraine. Ukraine and Russia are at war and Ukraine has support of European nations & USA. USA has been supporting Ukraine since the beginning of war.

Many Republicans have begun questioning the wisdom of spending billions in Ukraine. They are questioning how US money is being spent or vowing to oppose any further funding.

US President Biden is a member of Democrat party and it will be interesting to see how he will convince the Republicans to grant requested funds for Ukraine. The debate over Ukraine funding is expected to heat up with arguments between Democrats and Republicans in the House and Senate.

“As the impacts of Russia’s war reverberate around the globe, the United States is committed to maintaining strong global opposition to Russia’s illegal war,” wrote Biden’s budget director Shalanda Young in a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Thursday laying out the request.

Last year in December, Congress approved $45 billion to help arm Ukraine. The funding was meant to last through September 30, 2023.
