Hockey: Men in Blue in action today against Bangladesh; Women’s team wins Gold

The Indian men’s hockey team will go head-to-head against Bangladesh today, August 29, at the Men’s Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier 2023 in Salalah, Oman. The match begins at 7:30 PM IST.

The men in blue will be in action from August 29 to August 31and face Bangladesh, Oman, Pakistan, Malaysia and Japan in the Elite Pool stages. The details are as follows:

29 Aug – India vs Bangladesh – 7:30 PM IST
30 Aug – India vs Oman – 3:30 PM IST
30 Aug – Pakistan vs India – 8:30 PM IST
31 Aug – Malaysia vs India – 2:30 PM IST
31 Aug – India vs Japan – 7:30 PM IST

Indian Women lift trophy

The Indian Women’s team on Monday, August 28 thrashed Thailand 7-2 in the final to lift the Hockey 5S Asia Cup 2023 trophy. The team defeated Malaysia in the semi-final 9-5. With the win, the team also qualifies for the inaugural Hockey 5s World Cup.

Mariana Kujur, and Jyoti scored 2 goals each. Meanwhile, Navjot Kaur, Dipi Monika Toppo, and Mahima Choudhary hit the net once each to take India to 7 goals.

Dilip Kumar Tirkey, President, Hockey India, congratulated the girls on the spectacular performance. He said, “Your hard work, determination, and unwavering dedication have not only secured the championship but have also earned you a well-deserved spot in the upcoming FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024!”

The Hockey India President also announced monetary awards for their exceptional performance, which includes a reward of Rs 2 lakhs for each player and Rs 1 lakh for each member of the support staff.

Meanwhile, the men in blue will also be looking to qualify for the World Cup after a wonderful display of game by the women’s team.
