Kuwait hosts first Indian Ministerial Delegation in 2 years, cementing relations

V. Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, paid an official visit to the State of Kuwait from August 23 to 24, 2023. This was the first Ministerial visit from the Indian side to Kuwait in last 2 years.

During his visit, MoS Muraleedharan held meetings with Sheikh Talal Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Kuwait, as well as Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Foreign Minister. Additional discussions were held with Deputy Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah. The talks aimed to bolster the already strong bilateral ties and explore avenues for collaboration across various sectors.

A focal point of the discussions was the determination on both sides to enhance the economic partnership. Both delegations expressed keen interest in diversifying bilateral trade and fostering increased bilateral investments.

MOS Muraleedharan lauded the efforts of the Kuwaiti government in ensuring the welfare of the substantial Indian community in Kuwait. The talks also encompassed deliberations on issues affecting the Indian community.

MOS Muraleedharan actively engaged with the vibrant Indian community residing in Kuwait. He participated in a gathering of more than 300 Indian community members representing diverse professional fields.

He commended the contributions of the Indian community to Kuwait’s development and the strengthening of bilateral relations. The minister also met with various community and professional groups, and graced a business event organized by the Indian Business and Professional Council in Kuwait.

In a symbolic gesture, Minister Muraleedharan inaugurated the “Shilaphalakam” at the Indian Embassy premises on August 23. This monument pays homage to the sacrifices made by Indian freedom fighters during the struggle for independence. The visit underscored the commitment of both nations to fortify bilateral relations and identify new areas of cooperation to deepen economic partnership.
