At least 13 people were killed and more than 50 others injured in a suicide blast near a mosque in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province on September 29, where people were gathering to celebrate Eid Miladun Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.
The explosion occurred in close proximity to the Madina Mosque, situated in the Mastung district.
City Station House Officer (SHO) Mohammad Javed Lehri said the explosion was a “suicide blast” and that the bomber exploded himself next to DSP’s car. Mr. Lehri said that the wounded are being shifted to a medical facility while an emergency has been imposed in the hospitals.
Disturbingly, this marks the second such blast in Balochistan’s Mastung district in just 15 days. On September 14, another explosion rocked the area, causing injuries to at least 11 people, including Hafiz Hamdullah, a prominent leader of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).
