The High Commission of India in Bangladesh organised the premiere screening of the documentary film “Chinnapotra: Padma Pare Rabindranath” at Rabindra Kuthibari in Kushtia, Bangladesh. The programme was organized in collaboration with the Department of Archeology, Government of Bangladesh on Saturday.

The documentary film directed by Dr. Chanchal Khan, is a narration of the collection of letters that Gurudev Tagore wrote to his niece Indira Devi during his stay in Kuthibari, Kushtia from 1889-1895.

Speaking on the occasion, Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Pranay Verma said Rabindranath Tagore has a rare honour to write a national anthem for two countries: India’s ‘Jana Gana Mana’ and Bangladesh’s ‘Amar Shonar Bangla’.

Verma said Gurudev Rabindranath left a profound mark on culture of the Indian sub-continent, especially of Bengal through his music and the performing arts.

The High Commissioner said Tagore spent a long time in then East Bengal, now Bangladesh. He composed many immortal poems and songs while staying at Shilaidaha in Kushtia, Shahzadpur in Sirajganj and Patishar in Naogaon, all places now in Bangladesh.

Tagore was the first non-European poet to win the Nobel prize for literature. He won it for the English translation of “Gitanjali”, a collection of poems in 1913.
