G20 India: NDMC to oversee G20 preparation via control room

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has turned its Disaster Management Centre, into its dedicated G20 Control Room. This has been done to oversee the G20 preparation and keep an eye on all the activities.

According to media reports, twelve senior officers at the head-of-department level have been appointed as nodal officers. These nodal officers will to coordinate among various NDMC departments during the Summit. The centre will be coordinating with external agencies such as the Delhi Police, Traffic Police, and CPWD from September 4 to 10 to ensure smooth flow of work during the event.

Further, four different shifts have been decided in which a team of officers will be working round the clock. This has been decided to ensure the smooth functioning of civic services in the New Delhi area. Additionally, one nodal officer from each department will be stationed at the control room at night to ensure quick response to any overnight issues. According to NDMC chairman Amit Yadav, the control room will be overseen by three senior officers.

The Disaster Management Centre was constructed in 2010. It is a single-storey semi-permanent structure that spreads over an area of 3,771 sqm, with a built-up area of 502 sqm. It has several facilities such a conference hall, a dedicated control room, spacious officers’ rooms, restrooms, a pantry, a storage area, and toilets.

NDMC is displaying sculptures of animals and birds from the G20 nations, crafted out of scrap metal to promote the concept of waste to art. A total of 19 art installations have been crafted by 25 Lalit Kala Academy artists from all across India.

These include Bison (national mammal of USA), Jaguar (Brazil), Red-crowned crane (China), Arabian Camel (Saudi Arabia), Magpie (South Korea), Rooster (France), Redwing (Turkey), Sparrow (Italy), Emu (Australia), and Peacock (India), among others.
