G20 Leaders adopt New Delhi Declaration, a big win for India

In a resounding achievement for India’s G20 presidency, the New Delhi Leaders’ Summit Declaration has been unanimously adopted by member states on Saturday, (September 9). The announcement was made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Session 2 on ‘One Family’ during the G20 Summit in Delhi at the grand Bharat Mandapam.

“Have just got the good news that due to the hard work of our teams and your cooperation, a consensus has been reached on the New Delhi G20 Leaders Summit Declaration,” PM Modi said.

At a press briefing, EAM S. Jaishankar said, “The G20 has contributed to making India world ready and world India ready.” 

While giving details about the New Delhi declaration, EAM said, “The declaration focuses on promoting strong, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive growth. It seeks to accelerate progress on the SDGs and has come up with an action plan accordingly.”

Further, the declaration envisages a green development pact for a sustainable future. It endorses high-level principles on lifestyle for sustainable development, voluntary principles on hydrogen, the Chennai principles for a resilient and blue economy, and the Deccan principles on food security and nutrition, among others.

The Minister also said that the G20 has reaffirmed the fundamental importance of gender equality and committed to halving the digital gender gap by 2030.
