India’s big push for 5G technology in the North Eastern states

In a move towards bolstering technological infrastructure and improving healthcare access in the North East,Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated the nation’s first-ever 5G training labs and 5G applications in the health sector across all eight North Eastern states on September 29.

The project is set to unlock immense opportunities for the region. centrally funded through the North East Council (NEC) and being implemented by the Assam Electronic Development Corporation (AMTRON), a PSU of the Assam government.

Minister Reddy underscored the transformative potential of this ambitious initiative. He emphasised that the establishment of 5G infrastructure in the North East will open up a world of opportunities for economic growth and development. He highlighted that this project will also be instrumental in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.

MoS Shri B. L. Verma lauded the initiative and said, “The launch of 5G coupled with advancements in technology will be a defining move, marking the progress of the Ashtalakshmi States in this digital age.”

The introduction of 5G technology holds immense promise for the northeastern states of India, ushering in a new era of connectivity and development. It will also be beneficial to boost the government’s telemedicine initiative. Overall, 5G technology is poised to bridge the digital divide, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for the people of the northeastern states.

The Central Government has carried out various initiatives to make India ready for the digital revolution, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocating e-governance and advocating digitization in every sphere of the government’s framework. He has also described the four pillars of digital India- the price of the device, digital connectivity, the cost of data, and the idea of digital first. Further, it has been projected that the cumulative impact of 5G on India is estimated to reach around USD 450 billion by 2035.
