PM Modi inaugurates ‘Yashobhoomi’ Centre & unveils 13000-crore ‘PM Vishwakarma’ scheme

Adding to the list of unconventional state-of-arts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated Phase 1 of India International Convention and Expo Centre – ‘Yashobhoomi’ to the nation at Dwarka, New Delhi today. ‘Yashobhoomi’ boasts of a magnificent Convention Centre, multiple Exhibition halls and other facilities.

Additionally, to commemorate Vishwakarma Jayanti, PM Modi also launched ‘PM Vishwakarma Scheme’ for traditional artisans and craftspeople. The Prime Minister also launched the PM Vishwakarma logo, tagline and portal, and also released a customized stamp sheet, a tool kit e-booklet and video on the occasion. He also distributed Vishwakarma Certificates to 18 beneficiaries.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said, “Under the PM Vishwakarma scheme, the government will provide up to Rs 3 lakhs loan without any (bank) guarantee. It has also been ensured that the interest rate is also very low. Government has decided that Rs 1 lakh loan will be given in the beginning and when it is repaid, govt will provide additional Rs 2 lakhs loan to the Vishwakarma partners.” This initiative aims to empower and support artisans in both rural and urban areas, nurturing India’s rich heritage.

Budget for the Scheme amounts to Rs 13,000 crores on 18 sectors

Shedding light on t he 18 specific sectors for artisans and craftsmen, the Prime Minister shared that carpenters, blacksmiths, goldsmiths, sculptors, potters, cobblers, tailors, masons, hairdressers, washermen, and more have been encompassed within the PM Vishwakarma Scheme. The allocated budget for this initiative amounts to Rs 13,000 crores.

The Prime Minister emphasized the increasing global demand for handcrafted goods. He expressed the aim to redirect such outsourced work to our skilled artisans and craftsmen, enabling them to integrate into the global supply chain. The Prime Minister described this scheme as an endeavor to modernize and empower our Vishwakarma artisans, bringing them into the contemporary era.

Expanding on the strategies for providing training to skilled artisans and professionals, PM Modi explained that during their training, Vishwakarma artisans will receive a daily allowance of Rs 500. Additionally, they will be granted a toolkit voucher worth Rs 15,000 to acquire modern tools, and the government will offer support in branding, packaging, and marketing of their products. He stressed the importance of purchasing toolkits exclusively from GST registered stores, with a requirement that these tools be of Indian origin.

‘Yashobhoomi’ would serve as a dynamic hub

In reference to the International Convention and Expo Centre – ‘Yashobhoomi,’ the Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the invaluable contributions made by the laborers and Vishwakarma artisans in constructing this magnificent facility. He remarked, “Today I dedicate ‘Yashobhoomi’ to every worker of the country, to every Vishwakarma.” Addressing the Vishwakarma community participating in the event, he emphasized that ‘Yashobhoomi’ would serve as a dynamic hub, connecting their creations with the global markets and the world at large.

The Prime Minister extended invitation to stakeholders and to the Film and Television Industries from all corners of the country to host your award ceremonies, film festivals, and inaugural film screenings. “Both Bharat Mandapam and Yasobhoomi are a confluence of Indian culture and state-of-the-art facilities, and these grand establishments express India’s story before the world”, the Prime Minister stated.

‘Yashobhoomi’ at Dwarka is developed at a cost of around Rs. 5400 crore, with a total project area of over 8.9 lakh square meters and a total built-up area of more than 1.8 lakh square meters. ‘Yashobhoomi’ will find its place among the world’s largest MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) facilities.
