New Delhi is all decked up for hosting one of the most high-profile events, the G20 Summit, on September 9 and 10. Amid this diplomatically charged environment, a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and USA President Joe Biden is one such diplomatic engagement that stands out from the rest.

USA NSA Jake Sullivan confirmed to reporters during a press briefing that President Biden will participate in a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi.

U.S. President Joe Biden will focus on reforming the World Bank and urging other multilateral development banks to boost lending for climate change and infrastructure projects during the G20 leaders summit in India, according to the White House.

Giving details about the agenda, NSA Jake Sullivan said, “One of our main focuses heading into the G20 is delivering on an agenda fundamentally reshaping and scaling up the multilateral development banks, especially the World Bank.”

World leaders from the group of 20 major economies of the world will be discussing and finding solutions to several pressing global issues.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that both nations are looking forward to building upon the “strong” state visit of PM Modi to the US, which took place in June this year.

EAM Jaishankar said PM Modi’s June visit was a very strong one in terms of outcomes and results. He said, “My understanding is right now, both systems, the Indian system and the American system, are busy working that through and trying to implement a lot of what was agreed to in June this year,” in an interview to ANI.

Notably, under India’s Presidency, the Finance and Central Bank Deputies (FCBD) working group has been extensively deliberating on reforming and strengthening Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs).
