President emphasizes holistic approach to transportation in meeting with Indian Railways Probationers

A group of 213 probationers from the Indian Railways, representing batches from 2019, 2020, and 2021, had the honour of meeting with the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre on September 15, 2023. During this significant encounter, President Murmu underlined the pivotal role of the Indian Railways as a lifeline of the nation, emphasizing that it carries not only the dreams of ordinary citizens but also showcases the rich diversity of the country.

Addressing the probationers, President Murmu commended the Indian Railways for its ongoing efforts to upgrade services and provide memorable experiences to passengers, both domestic and international. She acknowledged that these efforts contribute to not only improving the overall travel experience but also serve as a means of introducing the world to India’s vibrant culture.

President Murmu underscored the critical importance of railway infrastructure development in fostering the socio-economic growth and development of India. She specifically lauded the ‘Amrit Bharat Station scheme,’ which focuses on the redevelopment of railway stations using green technology and incorporating world-class amenities. This initiative, she emphasized, is inherently people-centric and has the potential to drive tourism activities and economic progress.

The President expressed her confidence that the young officers present would play a pivotal role in shaping a modernized, environmentally conscious Indian Railways and contributing to the nation’s development.

Furthermore, President Murmu offered valuable advice to the officers, urging them to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise within the broader transport ecosystem. She emphasized the importance of studying and adopting best practices, not only from within India but also from other countries, to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the Indian Railways.

Crucially, the President called for a holistic approach to transportation, advocating that rail, road, air, and water transportation should be viewed as interconnected components of a multi-modal transport system. She stressed that addressing these modes of transportation collectively, rather than in isolation, is imperative for achieving the goal of an ‘Atma Nirbhar’ (self-reliant) and developed nation.

the meeting between President Droupadi Murmu and the Indian Railways probationers highlighted the railway’s significance as a social lifeline and a cultural ambassador for India. The President’s insightful guidance emphasized the need for integrated transport solutions to foster a self-reliant and developed India, with the officers of the Indian Railways playing a pivotal role in this transformative journey.
