Today, on September 13, 2023, President Droupadi Murmu of India inaugurated the ‘National e-Vidhan Application’ (NeVA) and delivered an inspiring address to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly in Gandhinagar.
During her speech, President Murmu praised the longstanding dedication of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly to serving society since the formation of the state in 1960. She commended the assembly for its numerous commendable initiatives over the years. President Murmu emphasized that the inauguration of the E-Assembly marks a significant milestone, ushering in a digital era for the House. She highlighted that through the NeVA platform, members of the assembly can now access and adopt best practices from the Parliament and other legislative bodies across the nation. She expressed confidence that this initiative, aligned with the vision of “one nation, one application,” would enhance the efficiency and transparency of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly, while also contributing to environmental sustainability by reducing paper usage.
The President underlined Gujarat’s position as a leading state in India, with achievements such as being a major manufacturing hub, the largest milk producer, a thriving startup ecosystem, and significant contributions to rooftop solar power generation and wind energy production.
Turning her attention to human resources and economic development, President Murmu stressed the importance of providing essential services like healthcare, education, electricity, and water to the public. She lauded the government of Gujarat for its dedication to these aspects and acknowledged significant progress in areas such as girl education, teacher-student ratios, enrollment rates, and healthcare services. She also praised the state’s achievements in electricity reform, water harvesting, and supply, as well as its initiatives for animal welfare.
Regarding women’s representation in politics, President Murmu called for an increase in women’s participation, highlighting their excellence in various fields. She emphasized that by providing proper opportunities, women can contribute significantly to the nation’s development alongside men.
The President also noted the formation of the Global Biofuels Alliance during the G20 Summit, led by India. She described this as a crucial step toward environmental protection and energy self-reliance, particularly beneficial for a state like Gujarat that promotes innovative and non-traditional energy sources.
In closing, President Murmu emphasized the importance of technology in improving people’s lives and how E-Vidhan would enable MLAs to stay connected with their constituents. She urged them to maintain parliamentary decorum and dignity while setting new standards for discussing public welfare. She highlighted that their efforts would not only contribute to making Gujarat more prosperous but also play a vital role in India’s goal of becoming a fully developed nation by 2047.
