India created history and brought joy to millions of hearts as it not only crossed the 100 medals mark but also went beyond it at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The Indian contingent finished its campaign on a high note with a total of 107 medals at the 19th Asian Games in China. This comprises of 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze. The country was hoping and rooting for “Iss baar 100 paar” And the Indian Contingent made it come true.
With this outstanding feat India surpassed its previous best record of 70 medals at the Jakarta Asian Games in 2018.
This is the second time that India has won more than 100 medals in any of the three major Games – The Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, and the Asian Games.
The Indian contingent also earned praises from the citizens, including PM Modi and Sports Minister Anurag Singh Thakur.
“The entire nation is overjoyed that our incredible athletes have brought home the highest ever total of 107 medals, the best ever performance in the last 60 years,” said PM Modi.

He further added that the unwavering determination, relentless spirit and hard work of our players have made the nation proud.
They had won 101 medals in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. On October 7, Indian players won a total of 12 medals, with half of them being gold in sporting events like kabaddi, badminton, hockey, and archery.
Indian athletes and shooters were the show-stoppers at the the Asian Games. In athletics, India bagged the most medals ie 29. On the other hand, Indian shooters brought a total of 22 medals for the nation. This edition of the Games also saw India occupying both the 1st and 2nd spot in Javelin, a history created by Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena.
In Chess, the Indian women’s team on October 7 bagged the silver medal. The team consisted of consisting of Koneru Humpy, Harika Dronavalli, Vaishali, Vantika and Savitha Shri finished 2nd among 12 teams following a total of 9 matches over the course of 9 days.
Today, Indian athletes will be seen at the closing ceremony at 5:30 PM (IST) in the evening.
