G20 Parliamentary Speakers' Summit | Pan-African Parliament | G10 India Presidency | Delhi G20 Leaders’ Summit

G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit aims to deliver solutions to complex global issues

Every year, the G20 strengthens its work by engaging with various stakeholder groups who draft recommendations to G20 governments and contribute to the policymaking process. As the representatives of the people and of all interests in society, the parliaments of every G20 member need to be actively engaged in this influential gathering of global leaders.

This year, 9th G20 Parliamentary Speakers’ Summit (P20) is taking place in India on 13 & 14 October 2023 at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi. The summit is being hosted by the Parliament of India under the broader framework of India’s G20 Presidency.

India aims to deliver consensus-based solutions to complex global issues in order to achieve our common objective of a more inclusive, peaceful and equitable world. India perceives its G20 Presidency as a ‘Peoples’ G20’. This casts an important responsibility on Parliaments – the embodiment of the peoples’ will – to enrich the global debate on the themes carefully selected for the P20 Summit.

Building on the legacy of previous P20 Summits, the 9th P20 Summit aims to engage parliamentary leaders in an effort to build consensus on policy solutions related to key priority areas. Highlighting the role of Parliaments in addressing complex global issues, the Summit will seek to demonstrate the collective resolve and solidarity of Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future.

The Summit will host four high-level sessions on Accelerating SDGs; Sustainable energy transition; Women led development; and Transformation in Ppoples’ lives through public digital platforms

India’s G20 Presidency is closely aligned with the spirit and approach of the Agenda 2030. Indian P20 Presidency will help take stock of the steps being taken to re-energize concerted global actions to accelerate SDG-related recovery.

The Summits also seek to promote inter-parliamentary cooperation, enhance engagement between governments, parliaments and other stakeholders in the implementation of various G20 outcomes, and advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The theme of the 9th P20 Summit is “Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future.” The event will be attended by Speakers of Parliaments of G20 members and invitee countries. The Pan-African Parliament will take part in the P20 Summit for the first time after the African Union became a member of G20 at the New Delhi G20 Leaders’ Summit on 9-10 September 2023.

A pre-summit Parliamentary Forum on LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) will also be held on 12 October 2023 to deliberate upon initiatives towards a greener and sustainable future in harmony with nature.
