Star Javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra has been nominated for the Men’s World Athlete of the Year 2023 award by the World Athletics on Thursday, October 12. World Athletics has nominated Neeraj Chopra for the Men’s Athlete of the Year award 2023. The global governing body of Athletics issued the statement announcing Neeraj’s nomination.
The Tokyo Olympics gold medallist recently won the gold medal in the Asian Games 2022 in China. Chopra made history by becoming the first Indian to win the gold at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest earlier this year. Later, the 25-year-old finished second in the Diamond League 2023 before defending his title at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.
This week marks the opening of the voting process for the 2023 World Athletes of the Year ahead of the World Athletics Awards 2023. World Athletics has confirmed a list of 11 nominees, selected by an international panel of athletics experts, comprising representatives from all six continental areas of World Athletics.
The other nominees for the award include Ryan Crouser (USA, Shot Put), Mondo Duplantis of Sweden (Pole Vault), Karsten Warholm (Norway), Miltiadis Tentoglou, (Greece), Alvaro Martin (Spain), Noah Lyles (USA), among several others.
The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family will cast their votes by email. Meanwhile, the fans will get to vote online via the World Athletics social media platforms. Voting for the nominees will close on the midnight of October 28.
