In a recent development, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has expressed support for Palestinian fighters following a significant attack on Israel. According to the semi-official ISNA news site, Yahya Rahim Safavi congratulated Palestinian fighters for launching what is being called the biggest attack on Israel in years. He declared, “We will stand by the Palestinian fighters until the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem.”
The surprise assault, orchestrated by the Palestinian group Hamas, involved a heavy barrage of rockets fired from the Gaza Strip into several Israeli towns. Iran’s state television broadcasted images of parliament members rising from their seats on Saturday, chanting slogans such as “Death to Israel” and “Palestine is victorious, Israel will be destroyed.”
Meanwhile, Oman has called for restraint from both Israel and the Palestinians in the midst of escalating tensions. In an official statement, Oman urged the international community and international parties to step in immediately and ensure adherence to the principles of international law. The Sultanate of Oman’s plea highlights the growing concern over the situation and the need for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
