Asian Games 2022: Magic in Squash! Dipika, Harinder bring gold for India; HS Prannoy assures a medal in Badminton

After marvelling Javelin and Archery, it is Squash that is making golden news. India’s Dipika Pallikal and Harinderpal Singh Sandhu defeated Aifa Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Kamal of Malaysia 11-10, 11-10 to claim gold in the inaugural mixed doubles squash at the Asian Games in Hangzhou.

With the win, India bagged its 20th gold medal at the Games. Earlier on October 4, Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh won the bronze medal in Squash Mixed Doubles for India.

Earlier in the day, India’s women archers won the gold medal in the Compound Team event. Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Parneet Kaur, and Aditi Gopichand gave a flawless performance, looked focused, and determined to clinch their 2nd gold medal at the Asian Games 2022. They defeated Chinese Taipei by a scoreline of 230-229.

The golden trio of Indian Archery once again proved their mettle, and left everyone in awe with their exceptional skills and confidence. They also received praise from PM Modi after their win. “This victory is a testament to their exceptional skill and teamwork,” the PM said.

Meanwhile, in Badminton, HS Prannoy assured another medal for India after he defeated Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia 21-16, 21-23, 22-20 and moved into the Semifinals.

In Wrestling, Mansi (57kg WW) displayed sheer determination in the Repechage Round 1, securing a brilliant victory against BARK Jeongae from the Republic of Korea with a score of 2-0. She is now set to battle it out for the Bronze medal.

India Hockey women’s team faces China today starting from 1:30 pm IST in the semi final and later today, a total of four bronze medal matches are lined up in wrestling.
