Mass exodus of ethnic Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh amidst crsis

Nagorno-Karabakh has witnessed a mass exodus of its ethnic Armenian population following Azerbaijan’s attack and the subsequent disarmament order issued to breakaway region’s fighter groups, as conveyed by the Armenian government.

Filippo Grandi, the Commissioner of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, expressed grave concern, stating, “More than 100,000 refugees have now arrived in Armenia from neighbouring Nagorno-Karabakh since Azerbaijan took control of the region in a lightning-fast offensive”.

“Many people in the region are suffering from hunger and exhaustion, urgently requiring assistance”, he added.

Grandi emphasized the need for immediate international support, with UNHCR and humanitarian partners intensifying their efforts.

In response to the crisis, the United Nations has announced the dispatch of a humanitarian team to Nagorno-Karabakh over the upcoming weekend.

As per various reports, it is being said that 80 per cent of the ethnic Armenian population has already been displaced.
