On Police Memorial Day, which is observed on October 21st each year, PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah paid their heartfelt tributes to the courageous police personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

PM Modi took to social media to express his gratitude and respect for the unwavering dedication of our police force. In a post, he stated, “On Police Memorial Day, we appreciate the tireless dedication of our police personnel. They are pillars of great support, guiding citizens through challenges and ensuring safety. Respect for their service. Their unwavering commitment epitomizes the true spirit of gallantry. Hearty tribute to all the personnel who have made the supreme sacrifice.”

H.M. Shah actively participated in the National Police Memorial Day program, which was held at the National Police Memorial in the capital city, Delhi. Home Minister Shah paid his respects to the martyred policemen and highlighted the indomitable spirit of these brave souls. He said, “On Police Memorial Day, I salute the great souls of our forces who lit the ray of hope with the light of their supreme sacrifice. No one can erase the stories of their bravery from our collective memories, because our nation will be eternally grateful to them. Salute to the brave hearts of our motherland.”

The significance of October 21 as Police Memorial Day dates back to 1959 when ten valiant police personnel made the ultimate sacrifice in an ambush by an armed Chinese contingent in the Hot Spring area of Ladakh. This day serves as a poignant reminder of their dedication and bravery, along with all the other policemen who have laid down their lives in the line of duty.

In 2018, PM Modi honored the sacrifices made by police personnel by dedicating the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, to the nation. This solemn monument stands as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude for the police force’s outstanding role in maintaining national security and unity.

Police Memorial Day not only pays tribute to the heroes who gave their lives to protect the nation but also recognizes the continued commitment of police personnel who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens. It is a day for the entire nation to express its deep appreciation for the unwavering service and sacrifices made by the guardians of law and order.
