The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Friday that Russia has sent 27 tons of food supplies to assist civilians in the Gaza Strip. These supplies are intended to be transferred from Egypt to the Gaza Strip.
This act of humanitarian assistance comes amidst ongoing tensions in the region, with Israel conducting a counter-offensive against Hamas following terror attacks on October 7. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, during which he emphasized Israel’s determination to eliminate Hamas and prevent further attacks.
In a statement posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed, “Russia’s EMERCOM has delivered 27 tons of food supplies, which have been handed over to the Egyptian Red Crescent for distribution to those in need in the Gaza Strip. Every contribution makes a difference.”
Deputy Minister Ilya Denisov provided additional details, stating, “A special plane departed from Ramenskoye Airport near Moscow to El-Arish in Egypt. The Russian humanitarian aid, comprising items such as wheat, sugar, rice, and pasta, will be transferred to the Egyptian Red Crescent for onward delivery to the Gaza Strip.”
In response, the Russian Foreign Ministry disclosed that President Putin outlined the measures Russia is taking to prevent the escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip. The conversation primarily focused on the crisis resulting from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict’s recent escalation.
Moreover, President Putin expressed his sincere condolences to the families and friends of the deceased Israelis and informed the Israeli leader about Russia’s efforts to normalize the situation, prevent further violence, and avert a humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.
