Avinash Sable was in a league of his own as he cruised to victory in men’s 3000m steeplechase and won India’s first track and field gold medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
Avinash Sable shattered the existing Asian Games record with an astonishing time of 8:19.50 seconds, surpassing Iran’s Hossein Keyhani’s previous record of 8:22.79 seconds, which had stood since the 2018 Asian Games.
Shortly after, Tajinderpal Singh Toor added another gold medal to India’s collection, bringing the total medal count to 45. Overall, India has now earned 42 medals, comprising 12 gold, 16 silver, and 16 bronze medals. On the 8th day of the Asian Games, India clinched two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals.
