Strong tremors felt across Delhi-NCR, epicentre in Nepal

Strong tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR region on Tuesday after a series of earthquakes hit Nepal.

The first two had magnitudes of 4.6 and 6.2, occurring within 25 minutes of each other. Subsequently, a third quake of 3.8 magnitude struck 15 minutes later, followed by a fourth of 3.1 magnitude just 13 minutes after, all at 3.19 PM IST.

The most powerful earthquake had its epicenter situated 206 kilometers southeast of Joshimath, a pilgrimage town in Uttarakhand, and 284 kilometers north of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 4.6, Occurred on 03-10-2023, 14:25:52 IST, Lat: 29.37 & Long: 81.22, Depth: 10 km, Location: Nepal,” National Centre for Seismology said in a tweet.

“Earthquake of Magnitude: 6.2, Occurred on 03-10-2023, 14:51:04 IST, Lat: 29.39 & Long: 81.23, Depth: 5 km, Location: Nepal,” it added.

The Delhi Police issued a plea for them to remain calm and not panic.
“We hope you all are safe. Please come out of your buildings to a safe spot, but do not panic. DO NOT USE ELEVATORS! For any emergency help, dial 112,” it said in a post on X.
