Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the pivotal role of technology in safeguarding the nation’s internal security. Underlining the government’s commitment to this cause, Shah announced the establishment of the ‘Police Technology Mission’ with a clear objective: to equip the country’s police forces with world-class technology, enhance the use of technology in policing, and ensure that law enforcement stays two steps ahead of criminals in the technology domain.
Shah shared his insights during an inspection of the passing out parade for the 75th batch at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad. He stressed the significance of this graduating batch, as they will be at the forefront of policing in a country that will soon celebrate its centenary of independence. With an eye to the future, Shah placed the weight of internal security squarely on their shoulders, urging them to make history through their hard work, loyalty, sacrifice, and dedication to the nation.
One notable feature of this batch is the record-breaking inclusion of 34 women officers among the 175 trainee officers. Amit Shah hailed this achievement as a significant milestone in promoting gender diversity and inclusivity within India’s police force.
India has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. Shah now envisions a strategic shift towards a comprehensive “zero-tolerance strategy” backed by proactive action. This means moving beyond mere reaction and response policing to embrace preventive, predictive, and proactive policing.
The ‘Police Technology Mission’ is the cornerstone of this transformation. It aims to equip the police with the latest technology, ensuring that they are not only on par with global standards but also leading the way in leveraging technology for law enforcement and internal security. With this initiative, the Indian government is determined to empower its police force with cutting-edge tools, data analytics, and digital capabilities, enabling them to stay ahead of emerging security threats and challenges.
Shah’s vision underscores the critical role of technology in fortifying India’s internal security. As the ‘Police Technology Mission’ takes shape, the nation’s police forces are poised to become technologically advanced, capable of countering threats in an increasingly digital and interconnected world. The inclusion of women officers and the shift towards a more proactive policing approach further underscore the government’s commitment to fostering a secure and inclusive environment for all citizens.
