India kicked off their Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup journey in spectacular fashion, clinching a resounding 12-0 triumph against Canada in their opening match at the FIH Hockey Women’s Junior World Cup, Chile 2023.
The Indian team showcased an outstanding performance from the outset, putting immense pressure on the Canadian side by securing four goals within the first 15 minutes of the game. Annu (4’, 6’, 39’), Dipi Monika Toppo (21’), Mumtaz Khan (26’, 41’, 54’, 60’), Deepika Soreng (34’, 50’, 54’), and Neelam (45’) all contributed to India’s goal tally.
Adopting an aggressive strategy early on, India surged ahead with Annu’s two quick goals (4′, 6′) from penalty corners, establishing an early lead. The relentless pressure on Canada continued as India maintained their offensive momentum.
The second quarter saw India’s dominance persist, with goals from Dipi and Mumtaz. Despite a penalty corner opportunity, Canada failed to convert, allowing India to conclude the second quarter with a commanding 4-0 lead.
India maintained their stronghold throughout the game, securing additional goals in the third and fourth quarters. Deepika capitalized on a penalty corner, while Annu completed her hat-trick, solidifying India’s lead. Mumtaz Khan (41’) added another goal to her tally.
