G20 regulators’ dialogue explores to achieve ‘Zero Defect and Zero Effect’ target

India is holding G20 Standards Dialogue 2023 on standards at the closing G20 Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. The 2-day event, commenced on November 2, and being hosted by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), is set to shape the standards with a strong emphasis on sustainability, regulatory excellence, and stakeholder engagement.

The dialogue tries to explore how sustainability can be addressed through inclusive standardisation and good regulatory practices to achieve ‘Zero Defect and Zero Effect’. It is worth-mentioning here that India hosted the G-20 leaders’ summit in New Delhi on September 9 and 10 in 2023 under its Presidency, which proved a huge success.

After inauguration, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Ashwini Kumar Choubey said in his address that the theme of this G20 Standards Dialogue is ‘Zero Defect Zero Effect’ and I feel this is the most appropriate and highly critical area for global community to focus upon.

The minister stated that standards are critical for today’s world, and deliberations among international stakeholders will define the future of standardisation.

International Organisation for Standardization (ISO), Secretary-General, Sergio Mujica took part through virtual mode and highlighted the importance of standardization and increased global capabilities worldwide.

According to BIS, this dialogue is providing a platform for industry leaders, government officials, standards professionals, regulators, and policy makers to congregate and foster advancements in standardization and global regulatory environments.

On November 3, event is set to explore methods to foster collaboration between stakeholders for effective standard-setting that compliment national and international efforts towards ease of doing business and strengthening global trade and commerce.
