Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur interacts with medallists of Asian Para Games 2023

Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur interacted and spent quality time with the medallists of Asian Para Games 2022 on Tuesday after their historic win at the Games winning a rich haul of 111 medals including a record 29 Golds.

The medallists, who excelled in various disciplines such as Para-Archery, Para-Table Tennis, Para-Athletics, Para-Badminton, and more, gathered at the Minister’s residence. Prominent athletes like Sheetal Devi, Rakesh Kumar, Suraj, Bhavina Patel, Ekta Bhyan, Nishad Kumar, Pramod Bhagat, and Krishna Nagar, along with their coaches, shared their inspiring experiences and insights gained from their time at the Games.

In a special gesture, Krishna Nagar, a Para-Badminton champion, expressed his gratitude by presenting the Minister with a badminton racquet, symbolizing his unwavering support for Para-Athletes and Para-Sports in India.

Anurag Thakur praised the dedication of all Para-Athletes, recognizing their vital contribution to India’s emergence as a sporting powerhouse, and provided them with the government’s ongoing support.

India wrapped up its campaign at the Para Asian Games in Hangzhou with a brilliant tally of 111 medals, comprising 29 golds, 31 silvers, and 51 bronzes. The nation secured the fifth position in the overall medal standings.

The majority of India’s success came in athletics, where they claimed 55 medals, including 18 golds, 17 silvers, and 20 bronzes. In Para-Badminton, India showcased their prowess by winning four gold and silver medals each, along with 13 bronze medals, making a total of 21 medals.

In the field of archery, India earned seven medals, which included two golds, three silvers, and seven bronzes. Para-Shooting contributed six medals, with two golds, two silvers, and two bronzes. The chess contingent secured eight medals, featuring two golds, a silver, and five bronzes.

Para-Canoe and Para-Lifting collectively garnered four medals, including one gold, one silver, and two bronzes. In Para-Judo, India secured a silver and two bronze medals, and in Para Table Tennis, they clinched two bronze medals.
