Eintracht Frankfurt delivered a stunning blow to Bayern Munich, winning the game 5-1 and shattering the champions’ unbeaten streak in the Bundesliga this season.
In a dynamic first half, Eintracht dominated Bayern, capitalising on defensive vulnerabilities to net three goals within 24 minutes. Omar Marmoush broke the deadlock in the 12th minute, seizing on a rebound after Fares Chaibi’s shot hit the crossbar, exploiting a miskick from Bayern’s Noussair Mazraoui.
Continuing their momentum, Eric Dina Ebimbe doubled Eintracht’s lead in the 31st minute, followed by Hugo Larsson extending the advantage to 3-0, capitalising on a Joshua Kimmich error.
Kimmich managed to redeem himself just before halftime, reducing the deficit with a powerful strike from 20 meters out, but Eintracht remained dominant.
Early into the second half, Eintracht further asserted their superiority, scoring a fourth goal as Ebimbe notched his second of the match, exploiting Bayern’s defensive frailties with another swift counterattack.
The relentless Eintracht side continued their onslaught, with Ansgar Knauff making it 5-1 on the hour mark, marking the first time in 48 years that a team had scored five goals against Bayern in one hour in the Bundesliga, since their own 6-0 triumph in 1975.
Bayern, currently sitting in second place with 32 points, holds a game in hand due to the postponement of last week’s match against Union Berlin because of snow. Meanwhile, league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, with 35 points, face third-placed VfB Stuttgart, who have 30 points, in an upcoming fixture on Sunday.
