Khelo India Para Games: Ujjwala ready to welcome delegates as Delhi dresses up

With just two days left, the National Capital is gearing up to create history by hosting the inaugural Khelo India Para Games.

This event opens its doors to the inspiring para-athletes, who will take center stage, showcasing their skills to fans across India, mesmerising them with their performances.

As Delhi embraces its spirited mascot, Ujjwala, a symbol representing the city’s pride and uniqueness, it embodies determination and empathy.

The streets of Delhi are adorned with vibrant murals celebrating the event, fostering a truly festive and celebratory atmosphere. The city has undergone an aesthetic transformation for this momentous occasion, aiming to offer an immersive experience for fans.

Ujjwala is making appearances at major landmarks like Khan Market, Sarojini Nagar, and Connaught Place. Moreover, there are designated selfie points across the city, allowing fans to capture moments with the mascot, Ujjwala, all of which are geo-tagged.

Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, expressed, “Inclusivity isn’t just an objective; it’s the spirit propelling the game forward. With the beginning of Khelo India Para Games, we aim to broaden its impact by identifying and supporting talented para-athletes who will contribute to India’s success in multi-discipline events in the years ahead.”

“I congratulate everyone involved. Thanks to the vision of our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Khelo India has transformed from a scheme into a movement. From 2018 till now, we’ve had 11 Khelo India Games, and this year, we are delighted to include the Para Games”, he added.

Amidst the grandeur of the capital, the games promise a spectacle of intense competition and camaraderie. The athletes will command the spotlight, demonstrating their prowess across various disciplines, surpassing barriers and redefining the boundaries of possibility. The excitement and enthusiasm are palpable as Delhi, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and sporting fervor, prepares to mark this historic milestone. Since 2018, a total of 11 Khelo India Games have successfully taken place, encompassing five Khelo India Youth Games, three Khelo India University Games, and three Khelo India Winter Games.

The inaugural Khelo India Para Games, scheduled from December 10 to December 17, 2023, are set to host over 1,400 participants from 32 states and union territories, including the Services Sports Control Board. The event will witness para-athletes competing in seven disciplines, including para-athletics, para shooting, para-archery, para football, para badminton, para table tennis, and para weightlifting.

The competitions will be held across three SAI stadiums – the IG Stadium, the Shooting Range in Tughlaqabad, and the JLN Stadium.Ujjwala is making appearances at major landmarks like Khan Market, Sarojini Nagar, and Connaught Place.
