In a heartfelt appeal, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh has called upon the citizens of India to extend their wholehearted support by contributing to the Armed Forces Flag Day (AFFD) Fund. Celebrated on December 7th, AFFD stands as a testament to the nation’s commitment to the welfare of Veer Naris, Ex-servicemen, and their families.
In his message, Rajnath Singh emphasized that donating to the AFFD Fund is a moral responsibility shared by every citizen. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is actively engaged in various welfare schemes aimed at providing care, assistance, rehabilitation, and treatment to veterans, war widows, and their dependents. “It is our collective duty to ensure that they receive the recognition they deserve,” he stated.
Highlighting the unwavering dedication of soldiers in safeguarding borders and their invaluable contributions in relief, rescue operations, and peacekeeping missions, the Raksha Mantri paid tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice. He urged citizens to contribute to the AFFD Fund, reinforcing the spirit of collective responsibility and inspiring others to join this noble cause.
The AFFD, a day to honor fallen heroes and personnel in uniform, serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by individuals who valiantly defend the nation’s borders. The Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, MoD, tirelessly works towards the welfare and rehabilitation of war widows, children of fallen soldiers, and ex-servicemen, including those with disabilities.
Recent enhancements in grants, such as the Medical Treatment Grant, Vocational Training Grant for Widows, and Serious Diseases Grant, showcase the government’s commitment to improving the lives of those who have served the nation. Contributions to the AFFD Fund are exempt from Income Tax, providing an additional incentive for individuals to participate in this noble cause.
During the Financial Year 2022-23, a grant of approximately Rs 250 crore was distributed to over 99,000 beneficiaries, underscoring the substantial impact of collective contributions. The outreach extends beyond individuals, with institutional grants benefiting rehabilitation centers and war memorial hostels across the country.
As the nation observes the AFFD, the call to action is clear – let us unite in support of the brave men and women who have dedicated their lives to safeguarding our freedom and sovereignty.
