The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Friday conducted a successful flight test of the New Generation AKASH (AKASH-NG) missile designed to intercept high-speed, agile aerial threats. The test took place at the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.

The missile was tested against a high-speed unmanned aerial target flying at very low altitude. The missile successfully intercepted the target and destroyed it during the flight test.

The weapon system, comprising the missile with an indigenously developed radio frequency seeker, launcher, multi-function radar, and command, control & communication system, performed without any glitch. The success of the AKASH-NG system was confirmed through data collected by numerous radars, telemetry, and electro optical tracking system deployed at the ITR.

Senior officials from DRDO, Indian Air Force (IAF), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) were present to witness the test. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the collaborative effort of DRDO, IAF, PSUs, and the industry, emphasizing the significant enhancement of the country’s air defense capabilities.
