Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has approved a set of groundbreaking reforms. These reforms, proposed to strengthen the periodic approval, assessment, accreditation, and ranking of all higher education institutions, aim to foster a robust culture of excellence.
The transformative initiative took shape with the constitution of an overarching committee in November 2022, with Dr. K. Radhakrishnan, Former Chairman of ISRO, at the helm. The committee presented its comprehensive report to the Education Minister on January 16, outlining key recommendations.
A pivotal shift recommended by the committee is the adoption of Binary Accreditation over traditional grading systems. This move is anticipated to encourage all institutions to actively participate in the accreditation process, fostering a culture of quality within the higher education system.
Moreover, the committee proposed Maturity-Based Graded Accreditation, introducing levels from 1 to 5. This system aims to motivate accredited institutions to continually elevate their standards and strive for improvement, reflecting a commitment to academic excellence.
In a bid to ensure the integrity and transparency of institutional data, the committee suggested the implementation of a One Nation One Data Platform. This centralized platform is envisioned to streamline data handling processes, providing a unified and reliable source of information.
Minister Pradhan expressed optimism about the transformative reforms, highlighting their potential to reshape the higher education landscape in India. The emphasis on accreditation, maturity-based grading, and a unified data platform signals a concerted effort to elevate the overall quality and competitiveness of the nation’s higher education institutions.
