President Droupadi Murmu is set to attend the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karbi Youth Festival at Taralangso near the Karbi Anglong district headquarters of Diphu in Assam today. The President, currently on a three-day visit to the Northeastern states, will be arriving in Assam after concluding a two-day tour in Meghalaya.
Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will also attend the event. The Karbi Anglong district administration has taken special measures for the occasion, declaring the entire premises of the Karbi People’s Hall, the festival venue in Taralangso, as a “no drone flying zone” in anticipation of the President’s visit.
The Karbi Youth Festival, recognized as the oldest and largest ethnic festival in Northeast India, is primarily celebrated by the Karbi and other ethnic communities residing in the areas governed by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
To commemorate the festival’s golden jubilee in a grand manner, the organizers have extended the duration of the annual event from the usual five days to eight days. The festival, which commenced on January 12, aims to showcase the rich and vibrant culture and heritage of the Karbi community.
The Karbi Youth Festival holds immense cultural significance, providing a platform for communities to come together and celebrate their diversity. The President’s presence is expected to add prestige to the event.
