Bangladesh is currently experiencing a significant cold wave, with the season’s lowest temperature recorded on Tuesday morning. The northern districts of Chuadanga and Sirajganj recorded 6.6 degrees Celsius temperatures, setting a new record of low temperature in the districts this season. A drastic drop in temperature has heavily disrupted daily life and routines across the country.
The lowest temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 11 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the coldest day so far this year.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, mild to moderate cold waves are sweeping through Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur and Khulna divisions. The cold spell is likely to continue till tomorrow in parts of the country, said a Met official in Dhaka.
The government has directed the closure of all primary and secondary schools, including madrasas, if temperatures fall below 10 degrees Celsius. The Chuadanga Meteorological Observatory noted a significant drop in temperature over a single day, from 9.5 degrees Celsius yesterday morning to 6.6 degrees Celsius today, prompting residents to stay indoors.
Cold, however, started rising at the beginning of January and cold waves have already swept in several phases over various places across the country.
