Seema Kumar assumes role as Member of Operations & Business Development at Railway Board

Seema Kumar has officially taken charge as the Member of Operations & Business Development at the Railway Board, effective from January 5, 2024. Her appointment follows her tenure as Additional Member (Tourism & Catering) at the Railway Board, where she held additional responsibilities in Traffic, Marketing & Business Development, and served as the Chairman & Managing Director of IRCTC during various intervals.

With a career spanning several decades, Seema Kumar’s journey in the Indian Railways Traffic Service (IRTS) began in 1988. She boasts academic excellence, holding a Gold Medal in M.Sc. Physics from Meerut University and an M. Tech. from IIT Delhi.

Her extensive professional experience includes a diverse array of roles such as Principal Chief Safety Officer of Northern Railway, Divisional Railway Manager in Kota, and Chief Project Manager at Northern Railway. Additionally, she served as General Manager (PRS) at the Centre for Railway Information System (CRIS).

Significant achievements during her tenure as Additional Member (Tourism & Catering) include the successful launch of innovative schemes like Bharat Gaurav Trains (BGT) and One Station One Product (OSOP).

Furthermore, her contribution at CRIS was instrumental in the design and development of the Unreserved Ticketing System and Next Generation e-ticketing System.

Seema Kumar’s commitment to professional development is evident through her completion of Leadership Programmes from institutions like SDA Bocconi Institute, Milan, Italy, and Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.

Her contributions have been recognized through numerous prestigious awards, including the Platinum Award for Web-based Citizen Services in 2009, the Silver Award for e-Governance 2010-2011 in the category of ‘Innovative Use of ICT by PSUs for Customer’s Benefits,’ and the National Tourism Award 2014-2015 for showcasing Cultural Heritage and Local Talent.
