Textile ministry to host ‘One Bharat Sari Walkathon’ in Kota on Feb 4

The Ministry of Textiles is set to organize the ‘One Bharat Sari Walkathon’ in Kota, Rajasthan, on February 4, as part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Utsav taking place from February 3 to 8. The initiative aims to promote fitness awareness among women, encouraging them to lead healthier lives, while also celebrating the rich textile heritage of India.

Building on the success of two previous editions held in Surat and Mumbai in 2023, the Sari Walkathon brings together thousands of women draped in saris, symbolizing the pride of their respective states. The event serves as a platform to champion the significance of indigenous textiles and support the ‘vocal for local’ concept.

India’s handloom sector stands as a testament to the country’s diverse cultural heritage, offering substantial employment opportunities, particularly for women, with over 35 lakh individuals engaged in the sector nationwide.

The Atmanirbhar Bharat Utsav in Kota will celebrate self-reliance in India, providing comprehensive support to traditional artisans and craftspeople. Approximately 10,000 women from various parts of the country are expected to participate, donning their distinctive traditional attire. The event will draw notable figures from diverse fields, including celebrities, influential personalities, fashion designers, and dedicated Anganwadi workers.

In addition to individual participants, various state government bodies, apex societies, primary handloom weavers co-operative societies, and representatives from handloom, handicraft, jute, silk, and woollen weavers/artisans will actively contribute to the Utsav, making it a vibrant celebration of India’s rich textile heritage and the spirit of self-reliance.
