‘War Rooms’ to be set up by airports as fresh SOPs issued for airlines

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Tuesday shared fresh Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in addition to those issued on Monday on mitigating passenger inconvenience to all the airlines.

The Union Minister took to Social Media platform X, “In view of the fog-induced disruptions, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on mitigating passenger inconvenience were issued yesterday to all the airlines.” 

As per the fresh SOPs, the Ministry has sought incidence reporting thrice daily for all the 6 metro airports. Further, the implementation of Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Directives, SOPs and CARs will be monitored and reported regularly, Minister Scindia said. 

To address any issues with regard to passenger inconvenience with immediacy, the Union Minister informed that ‘War Rooms’ will be set up by airports and airline operators at the 6 Metro Airports. 

Sufficient CISF manpower availability will also be ensured round-the-clock. Furthermore, RWY 29L at Delhi Airport has been made CAT III operational from Tuesday. Operationalization of RWY 10/28 as CAT III at Delhi Airport after re-carpeting will also be undertaken, the Civil Aviation Minister informed. 

The DGCA on Monday issues SOPs to airlines regarding flight cancellations due to excessive delays during adverse weather conditions. According to it, airlines will be required to publish accurate real-time information regarding delays of their flights, which shall be published on the respective website of the airline, through advance information to affected passengers by SMS/ WhatsApp and email, display of updated information regarding flight delays to passengers waiting at the airports and appropriate sensitization of the airline staff at the airports to suitably communicate with and continuously guide & inform the passengers about flight delays.
