Millions of people travel through railway stations every day in India. Now, 150 of these stations have been recognized for providing safe and healthy food options. This achievement comes through the “Eat Right Station” certification program by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The initiative ensures that passengers have access to food that is not only tasty but also hygienic and nutritious. It involves thorough checks on food vendors, training for those handling food, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Stations meeting these criteria receive the prestigious “Eat Right Station” certification.
Prominent railway stations like New Delhi, Varanasi, and Kolkata are among those awarded. This program also extends to metro stations, with six notable ones receiving accreditation. These include stations in Noida, Kolkata, and Kanpur.
The benefits are not just for passengers. Food vendors also gain credibility by following these standards, attracting more customers and improving their livelihoods.
FSSAI aims to expand this program to cover more railway and metro stations across the country. The goal is to ensure that every traveler, regardless of where they’re headed, can enjoy safe and healthy food options throughout their journey. This initiative promises to make a significant contribution to promoting a healthier India for everyone.
