A cultural program on life of U Tirot Sing organised in Bangladesh

A cultural program on life and bravery of Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing organised on Friday evening at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Dhaka. The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre, Dhaka and Department of Arts & Culture, Government of Meghalaya in collaboration Shilpakala Academy, Bangladesh organised the program in Dhaka where Tirot Sing had achieved heroic martyrdom in the British custody as political prisoner.

The Cultural Programme, ‘U Syiem (Chief) Tirot Sing: Braveheart of the Khasi people’ was a composite presentation of the performing arts of Meghalaya. The thematic anchor of the cultural evening was based on the life and bravery of Tirot Sing who attained martyrdom in Dhaka on 17th july 1835.

The programme vividly depicted the Khasi people’s steadfast bravery and resolute confrontation with the mighty British Empire and creatively portray the odyssey of one of India’s very first tribal resistance movements against colonial forces.

The Cultural evening also showcased glimpses of the rich culture of Meghalaya.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya Sniawbhalang Dhar, Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Binoy George, ministers and officers from the Government of Meghalaya, historians and scholars and invited guests were present during the programme.
