Bumrah dethrones Ashwin to become first India pacer to claim top spot in men’s bowler Test rankings

Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah dethroned compatriot Ravichandran Ashwin, securing the No.1 spot in the latest ICC Men’s Test Bowler rankings.

Bumrah’s exceptional performance in the second Test at Vizag, where he claimed figures of 9/91, propelled him from third place to the top, making him the first Indian pacer to achieve this feat. Ashwin, who held the top position since March last year, dropped to third place despite taking three wickets in the same match.

South African speedster Kagiso Rabada maintained the second spot in the rankings despite missing the ongoing Test series against New Zealand.

Bumrah, with five 10-wicket hauls in his career, reached the summit, having claimed two five-wicket hauls in 2024 against South Africa and England. He joins the ranks of Indian bowlers Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Bishan Bedi to top the ICC Test Bowler rankings.

Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya rose to sixth place after an eight-wicket match haul in the one-off Test against Afghanistan, while Asitha Fernando climbed seven spots to 34th after claiming six wickets in the same match.

In the men’s Test batting rankings, Yashasvi Jaiswal climbed 37 places to 29th after his impressive double century (209) in the second Test against England. Kane Williamson retained his top spot, with Australia’s Steve Smith in second and England’s Joe Root dropping to third.

In the all-rounder rankings, England skipper Ben Stokes moved to fourth, and India’s spinner Axar Patel claimed the fifth spot after the Vizag Test.

Coming to the ODI bowler rankings, Australia’s Adam Zampa secured the third spot, with South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj at the top and Josh Hazlewood in second place.

Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam retained his top spot in the ODI batting rankings, with India’s Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma following closely in second, third, and fourth positions, respectively.
