Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, unveiled the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) initiative during the National Conference on APAAR held yesterday in New Delhi. The initiative, aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) and the National Credit and Qualifications Framework (NCrF), aims to revolutionize the academic experience for students across the country.

The cornerstone of APAAR is the assignment of a unique and permanent 12-digit ID to every student, consolidating their academic achievements in a unified and accessible platform. Education Minister Pradhan emphasized that APAAR is poised to become the aspirational and globally recognized document for students in India, marking a significant step towards streamlining the education sector.

Describing APAAR as a new digital public infrastructure (DPI), Minister Pradhan highlighted the pivotal role of digital initiatives in India’s journey towards a digital transformation. He noted that India has been at the forefront of developing such digital infrastructure, with 53 digital public infrastructures developed across 16 countries, out of which 19 are in India.

Minister Pradhan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for envisioning a ‘Digital India’ and noted that the momentum towards this vision has accelerated with the creation of 25 crore APAAR IDs. He underscored the importance of interconnectivity among APAAR IDs, the Academic Bank of Credit, and Digilocker, emphasizing the seamless operations they would facilitate.

Furthermore, Minister Pradhan highlighted other significant digital assets such as Swayam and DIKSHA, which complement APAAR in providing a comprehensive digital ecosystem for education in India.
