EAM Jaishankar meets Hungarian counterpart, discusses bilateral ties, Ukraine conflict

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met with his Hungarian counterpart, Peter Szijjarto, in Delhi on Wednesday. The leaders discussed bilateral ties and the escalating Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Jaishankar highlighted the progress made in political cooperation, bilateral trade, investment, and the education sector between India and Hungary. With 75 years of diplomatic relations being celebrated this year, the ministers emphasized the depth of engagement across various fronts.

In a statement after the meeting, Jaishankar said: “As we mark 75 years of diplomatic relations this year, we noted significant progress in political, trade, investment, and education sectors. We also discussed stronger collaboration via Visegrad and EU and exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict.”

Szijjarto will also take part in the CII-India Europe Business and Sustainability Conclave, scheduled for February 21-22 in the national capital. The event aims to enhance economic ties and sustainability efforts between India and Europe, tapping into potential growth and collaboration opportunities.

India’s proactive approach in fostering a conducive trade and investment environment has made it an attractive destination for European partners. With ongoing trade negotiations with the UK, EU, and EFTA countries (Liechtenstein, Norway, Iceland, Switzerland), India’s engagement with Europe offers promising avenues for enhanced economic cooperation.

The second edition of the conclave aims to build on the success of its predecessor, advancing the agenda of “India-Europe partnership for a better sustainable future.” Organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, the event seeks to articulate business priorities, discuss opportunities, and address challenges faced by stakeholders in both India and Europe.
