Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Thursday that PM SVANIDHI, a flagship initiative supporting street vendors, has provided credit assistance to 78 lakh street vendors nationwide.
While presenting the interim Budget 2024-25, Sitharaman highlighted the success and sustainability of PM SVANIDHI, pointing out that 2.3 lakh street vendors have received credit for the third time. The initiative, named Prime Minister’s Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi, has played a crucial role in offering financial support to street vendors, aiding them in sustaining and expanding their businesses.
In addition to PM SVANIDHI, Sitharaman discussed the positive impact of PM JANMAN Yojana, focusing on Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs). This initiative aims to uplift marginalized communities, providing them with support and opportunities for socio-economic development.
The finance minister also highlighted PM Vishwakarma Yojana, which offers comprehensive support to artisans and craftspeople, recognizing the importance of preserving and promoting traditional crafts for the overall growth of the artisan community.
The interim budget also featured the Scheme for the Empowerment of Divyang and transgender people. Sitharaman emphasized the government’s commitment to inclusivity, addressing the unique challenges faced by these communities.
The scheme aims to empower people with disabilities and transgender individuals by creating opportunities for education, employment, and overall societal integration.
