Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA), Chaudhry Muhammad Adnan, was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in Rawalpindi on Monday.
Adnan, who ran as an independent candidate in the general elections from Rawalpindi’s NA-57 and PP-19 constituencies, succumbed to his injuries near the city police officer’s (CPO) office in the Civil Lines area.
Rawalpindi CPO Syed Khalid Hamdani said that senior police officials have collected evidence from the crime scene, and teams have been mobilized to apprehend the suspects.
“Based on preliminary investigations, the incident appears to be motivated by personal enmity,” he remarked.
Adnan, aged 47, was an alumnus of Punjab University and served as an MPA from 2018 to 2020, holding the position of parliamentary secretary for social welfare and revenue.
Pakistan held national elections on Thursday. Following the elections, PTI supporters staged nationwide protests, alleging electoral fraud in favor of the party led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Two PTI workers were killed, and 12 others sustained injuries in the Shangla district headquarters of Alpuri after the police opened fire on the demonstrators.
