Speaking at the Gulf Maharashtra Business Forum Global Mahabiz 2024 conference held in Dubai on February 25th, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Nitin Gadkari, outlined India’s ambitious goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2070. The event convened leaders and innovators from across the globe to deliberate on sustainable development and economic collaborations. The event featured Sheikha Jawaher Bint Khalifa Al Khalifa as the Chief Guest.
Minister Gadkari’s virtual address emphasized India’s significant strides towards sustainability, particularly in renewable energy. He highlighted innovative solutions such as self-sustainable aviation fuel derived from biomass, bio-CNG production, and bamboo-based bioethanol refining. Stressing India’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, Gadkari underscored the importance of technology, innovation, and international cooperation in achieving this ambitious target.
“Our emphasis on innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological advancements underscores our commitment to converting knowledge into wealth,” remarked Minister Gadkari, acknowledging India’s rapid adoption of electric vehicles and renewable energy sources as pivotal to sustainable development.
Furthermore, Gadkari highlighted India’s initiatives in organic farming, renewable energy, and infrastructure development, aligning with the vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2070. He noted Maharashtra’s crucial role in India’s economic growth, with Mumbai serving as its heart, attracting significant investments both domestically and internationally.
The Consul General of India, Satish Kumar Sivan, echoed Gadkari’s sentiments, emphasizing the century-old cultural ties between India and the UAE. He highlighted recent advancements in economic cooperation, including a significant increase in bilateral trade volume, which reached $85 billion USD during the last financial year. Sivan also discussed recent agreements signed between the two countries, such as the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT) and the InterGovernmental Framework Agreement on India’s Middle East Europe Economic Corridor, aimed at enhancing economic integration and cooperation across various sectors.
The conference featured speeches from other prominent figures, including Sunil Manjrekar, President of GMBF, who highlighted the organization’s innovative fundraising initiatives supporting environmental and humanitarian causes.
