North-East Sammelan showcases rich cultural tapestry of North Eastern Region

Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi hosted a significant North-East Sammelan on February 4, attended by Union Ministers and dignitaries. The event highlighted various achievements and initiatives aimed at fostering comprehensive development in the North Eastern Region.

The event was graced by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region, Culture, and Tourism, G. Kishan Reddy, along with Union Minister of Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region and Cooperation, B L Verma, and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik. Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Education, Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, MPs, and MLAs from the North East also attended the event.

The proceedings commenced with a tribute to Baba Saheb Ambedkar by the Ministers, followed by the virtual laying of the foundation stone for the North Eastern Cultural and Social Institute in Dwarka and the inauguration of the Barak Hostel at JNU, New Delhi. The initiatives aim to enhance cultural and educational facilities for the North-East.

The North Eastern Cultural and Social Institute in Dwarka, with a budget of Rs. 116.38 crore, is set to become a hub for various cultural activities. It will feature amenities such as an auditorium, a library-cum-reading room focused on North Eastern materials, an art gallery, exhibition hall, research center, sale outlets, and a guest house. The Barak Hostel at JNU, New Delhi, with an estimated cost of Rs. 28.675 crore, is expected to provide modern amenities for both boys and girls, catering to the growing number of North-East students.

Addressing the Sammelan, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy emphasized the event’s significance in showcasing the vast opportunities, potential, and rich cultural tapestry of the North Eastern Region. He highlighted the Indian Government’s decade-long commitment to the region’s development, with substantial investments in education, healthcare, agriculture, and employment generation.

Union Minister of State B.L. Verma underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recognition of the crucial role played by the North-East in the nation’s development.

Union Minister for Earth Sciences, Kiren Rijiju, congratulated the people of the North East on the launch of Barak Hostel at JNU and the foundation stone laying of the North Eastern Culture and Social Institute. He highlighted the government’s commitment to the region’s development under the vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ and emphasized the link between peace and Northeast development.

The Sammelan included special videos showcasing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for the North Eastern Region and highlighted achievements in education, healthcare, agriculture, youth/sports, skill development, employment generation, power, energy, petroleum & natural gas, good governance, tourism, and Act East projects.
