Calling the national security a complicated calculus in today’s times, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted India’s response to Chinese incursions at the Line of Actual control (LAC) and towards cross-border terrorism from Pakistan through its ferocious responses in Uri and Balakot.
Speaking at the Pandit Hriday Nath Kunzru Memorial Lectures 2024 held at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Jaishankar delved into India’s firm stance on safeguarding its sovereignty and countering security threats. He emphasized India’s decisive actions, including the surgical strike in 2016 following the Uri attack and the airstrike in Balakot in 2019 after the Pulwama terror attack.

Addressing the event, Jaishankar highlighted India’s efforts to bolster border infrastructure, a long-neglected aspect critical to national security. He emphasized India’s swift and effective response to challenges along the LAC, particularly amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore, Jaishankar underscored India’s proactive engagement on the global stage, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to initiatives like the Quad, aimed at promoting peace and stability in the region.
In addition to its robust defense posture, Jaishankar highlighted India’s economic resilience and strategic decision-making. He emphasized India’s pursuit of greater self-reliance and its ability to make independent choices, even in the face of international pressure.
