Cabinet approves Delhi Metro Phase-IV projects, enhancing metro connectivity in NCR

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved two corridors of the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro. The Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block and Inderlok to Indraprastha corridors are expected to improve metro connectivity in the national capital region.

The total cost of the approved corridors is Rs 8,399 crore. It will be funded by the central government, the Delhi government, and international agencies.

The combined length of the two lines is 20.762 km. The Inderlok-Indraprastha corridor, spanning 12.377 km, will serve as an extension of the green line. It will offer interchange facilities with the red, yellow, magenta, violet, and blue lines, as well as the airport line.

With a total of 10 stations, the corridor will have 11.349 km of underground lines and 1.028 km of elevated lines. The extension will improve connectivity to the Bahadurgarh region of Haryana. Commuters from these areas will be able to travel on the green line to directly reach Indraprastha as well as various other central and east Delhi destinations.

The Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor (8.385 km) will connect the silver, magenta, pink and violet lines. The entirely elevated corridor will have eight stations: Inderlok, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Lajpat Nagar, Chirag Dilli and Saket G Block.

The Delhi Metro is currently constructing a network of 65 kilometres as part of its fourth phase of expansion. The new corridors are expected to be completed by March 2026. Presently, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) operates a network of 391 kilometres with 286 stations.
