The 12th edition of the India-Italy Military Cooperation Group (MCG) Meeting convened on March 12-13 in New Delhi to strengthen defense cooperation between the two nations. Led by the Directorate of International Defence Cooperation at Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and the Military Policy and Planning Division of the Italian Defence General Staff, the discussions focused on advancing military-to-military exchanges and exploring new initiatives.
Italy and India underlining the significance of their burgeoning ties, recently elevated their bilateral relations to the level of Strategic Partnership. This landmark decision was announced during the visit of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni to India in March 2023, marking a pivotal moment in the diplomatic landscape of both countries.
Further underscoring their commitment to fostering mutual collaboration, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation was renewed during the visit of Indian Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh to Italy in October 2023. This renewal signifies a mutual dedication to enhancing bilateral defense ties and underscores the strategic importance both nations place on their partnership.
The discussions at the 12th MCG Meeting focused on building upon these significant milestones, aiming to forge stronger bonds and enhance synergy in defense initiatives. With an eye towards future challenges and opportunities, both India and Italy remain committed to deepening their defense cooperation for the mutual benefit and security of their respective nations.
