Indian cricket legend, MS Dhoni, stepped down as the captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Thursday. The official handle of CSK took to X to announce that Indian opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been appointed as the new captain of the IPL team.
“MS Dhoni has handed over the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings to batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad ahead of the IPL 2024 season. Ruturaj has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2019, playing 52 matches in the IPL during this period,” CSK announced in an official statement on Thursday.
During his 14-year tenure in the yellow jersey, the ‘Captain Cool’ led Chennai to five titles.
Dhoni captained CSK in 212 IPL matches, winning 128 and losing 82. He retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, after leading India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
